N.S. Smith Real Estate sold its first Nursing Home in 1972 and has been focused on this industry ever since. Our company has been involved in sales, management, development and construction since 1980 and have extensive experience with every step of the process, from purchase of the land, dealing with municipalities, to opening day and beyond.

Licensed to sell real estate in 1957, Norm worked at Mann & Martel Real Estate, becoming the youngest manager in their company in 1959.
N.S. Smith Real Estate was established in 1960, at the corner of Yonge and Sheppard in the old Dempsey Hardware Building. Years later, the office was moved back to the former Mann & Martel office, primarily selling residential real estate.
The first nursing home was sold in 1972. This was the year the Ontario government brought in the Nursing Home Act and subsidized the elderly. Norm became actively engaged in selling nursing and retirement homes in Canada and the US; arranging, financing and evaluating along the way. He was also involved in the construction of 5 nursing homes, 4 retirement homes, obtaining administration license, and serving on a number of committees.

In 1987, Peter became licensed as a sales representative and joined the company as a sales rep. Soon after, he achieved the Broker License and was promoted to manager in 1991. Peter was promoted to Vice President of the company, while managing 30+ sales representatives. In 1999, Peter sold the residential division in order to focus on senior accommodation and commercial sales.
